As many as 31 girl students at an Adi Dravidar Welfare hostel in Namakkal in Tamilnadu fell ill after an alleged case of food contamination at the facility. The students began experiencing discomfort soon after lunch and were rushed to the Government Medical College Hospital for treatment. While six students have since been discharged, the remaining students are still under medical observation. Most of the affected students are from the Kolli Hills region. They stay at the hostel while attending nearby government schools in the area.
Inquiry Ordered, Food Samples Sent for Testing
Namakkal Officials said the symptoms appeared shortly after the meal, raising suspicion of food contamination. Food safety officers noted that the meal had been prepared earlier in the day. They also reported that the cook, who was reportedly unwell, had still taken part in preparing the food. Authorities have collected food samples and sent them for laboratory analysis. Meanwhile, officials have launched an inquiry to determine the exact cause of the incident.
