About 200 people, including the bride and groom, became affected by fever, vomiting, and diarrhoea after participating in the marriage ceremony in Shoranur, Kerala. This incident was reported after attending the wedding ceremony of a young man from Kulappully and a young woman from Pirayiri on Sunday night.
Symptoms and Medical Examination
The disease’s signs, such as fever, vomiting, and diarrhoea, started developing in those who attended the ceremony from Sunday night onwards. In the beginning, most of those afflicted believed it was due to the rains. But tests carried out by other doctors at a private hospital described it as food poisoning more of it. More than 40 people fell ill and needed medical help of one sort or another.
Investigation and Sanitary Conditions
The Shoranur Municipal Health Department and the Ongallur Grama Panchayat Health Department investigated the food source, a catering establishment established in Vadanamkurussi that served the contaminated food. The mystery of the successful establishment audit revealed that the organization was functioning under scrupulous hygiene standards. The cholera outbreak is believed to have originated from tainted drinking water or ice.
