To mitigate public health risks linked to unsafe food practices, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has launched a comprehensive training initiative for around 10,000 licensed food vendors. This initiative aims to enhance food safety, hygiene, and storage practices, ensuring better protection for the public.
BMC Collaborates with FSSAI
In a strategic move to improve food safety, the BMC has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). This collaboration will see food vendors undergo rigorous training covering key areas such as food safety guidelines, personal hygiene, waste management, and the essentials of the Food Safety and Standards Act.
Municipal Commissioner’s Commitment to Public Health
Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani emphasized the BMC’s responsibility to prioritize the health and well-being of Mumbai’s residents. He highlighted that providing training to food vendors is crucial for enhancing the overall food safety standards across the city. Through this initiative, the BMC aims to ensure that vendors adhere to the highest hygiene and safety practices, ultimately reducing the risk of foodborne diseases among Mumbaikars.
