Ambaji Temple Sets Food Safety Benchmark
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has awarded the ‘Eat Right Prasad’ certificate to the mohanthal prasad distributed by the Ambaji Temple Trust, Gujarat. This recognition highlights the temple’s adherence to strict food safety, hygiene, and quality standards in preparing and distributing prasad. Calling it a proud moment for the state, the Gujarat government credited the temple trust’s disciplined functioning and commitment to quality and cleanliness for this achievement. “This success came under the guidance of Shree Arasuri Ambaji Mata Devasthan Trust and Additional Collector Kaushik Modi,” the government said in its statement.
Past Controversy Over Mohanthal
In 2023, the traditional mohanthal prasad, made of gram flour, ghee, and sugar, faced allegations of adulteration. Due to concerns over its shelf life and safety, the temple temporarily replaced it with chikki. The Drugs Control Administration (FDCA) had also seized ghee from the contractor responsible for making the prasad.
What the Certificate Means
The ‘Eat Right Prasad’ certification is given to religious institutions that maintain rigorous standards of food safety, hygiene, and quality in the preparation and distribution of prasad.
