Key Development
Coca-Cola is piloting plastic-free multipack packaging in Germany for Coca-Cola Original and Coca-Cola Zero in 6×1.25 litre bottles. The new design replaces traditional plastic wrap with adhesive dots that securely hold bottles together.
Convenience Meets Sustainability
The multipacks feature a sturdy, recyclable cardboard handle that makes carrying easy for consumers while significantly reducing plastic waste. The adhesive dots are carefully positioned to ensure stability, durability, and safe transport, while allowing consumers to separate the bottles easily.
Easy to Separate and Recycle
Shoppers can twist or pull the bottles apart at the glue points. Clear instructions and simple graphics on the pack guide consumers on how to separate the bottles. After removal, the cardboard handle can be recycled with paper waste, and the PET bottles can be disposed of in standard plastic recycling bins.
Part of a Broader Green Initiative
This pilot is part of Coca-Cola’s broader eco-friendly packaging efforts in Europe, alongside designs such as KeelClip, LitePacTop, and CanCollar. The company is closely monitoring customer feedback during the trial to assess both packaging performance and consumer response. The initiative supports Coca-Cola’s goal of offering packaging that is lighter, more sustainable, and easier to recycle.
