Report
The Delhi Food Safety Department inspected Khoya Mandi in Mori Gate and confiscated 430 kilograms of ‘contaminated’ khoya as part of food safety raids ahead of Diwali.
In an official statement, the department said its team gathered ten samples of khoya, confiscating and destroying 430 kilograms that were left unattended and emitted a foul odour. The department considered the confiscated khoya, a dry milk product used in sweets, perishable and potentially harmful to consumers.
Countering Adulteration ahead of Diwali
According to the report, with khoya demand surging during Diwali, adulteration increased, leading to the raid aimed at protecting consumers.
The department also confirmed that it sent all the collected samples to a lab for testing under the Food Safety and Standards Act of 2006. Five special teams, including 15 Food Safety officers, conducted the raid. The Food Safety Department has scheduled further raids in the coming days to check the quality of khoya being sold at Khoya Mandi.
