Amul Makes European Debut with Fresh Milk Launch in Spain

Report

Amul, the flagship brand of the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), has taken a bold step into the European market by partnering with Spain’s Cooperativa Ganadera del Valle de los Pedroches (COVAP). This strategic alliance allows Amul to introduce its fresh milk to consumers in Spain and the European Union, according to media reports.

Amul Begins Rollout in Spain and Portugal

Amul is starting the launch in Madrid and Barcelona, followed by key cities such as Malaga, Valencia, Alicante, Seville, and Córdoba in Spain, and Lisbon in Portugal. The brand plans to expand further into European markets, including Germany, Italy, and Switzerland. Amul marked the launch of its fresh milk in Europe with an official event at the Embassy of India in Madrid. Managing Director Jayen Mehta said the collaboration would bring the nutritional goodness of Amul milk to Spanish consumers. “This is the first time Amul fresh milk is entering the European market,” he noted.

Amul Aligns Global Expansion with India’s Vision

Mehta emphasised that the move supports India’s vision of promoting its dairy leadership worldwide. “We’re proud to bring the taste of India to the world, aligning with our Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s goal of making Amul a global dairy brand,” he said. COVAP President Ricardo Delgado Vizcaíno welcomed the collaboration, highlighting the benefits for farmers in both countries. “By working with Amul, we’re supporting another cooperative while helping our dairy farmer members grow alongside India’s farmers,” he said.

Amul’s Dairy Power Drives Expansion

Amul leads the global dairy cooperative space with 3.6 million member farmers. It processes over 12 billion litres of milk each year across 112 dairy plants in India. With a turnover of more than $11 billion, Amul holds the title of the world’s strongest dairy brand in global rankings. In April 2025, Amul increased the price of its fresh pouch milk by ₹2 per litre across India. The 3–4% hike, the cooperative explained, stays well below the average food inflation rate, despite rising costs.

Conclusion: Amul Bridges Continents Through Dairy

By launching its fresh milk in Europe, Amul is not just expanding its global reach—it’s also strengthening the role of farmer cooperatives in the international food market. The partnership with COVAP showcases how shared values and cooperative models can nourish consumers and uplift farmers on both sides of the globe.
