Key Update
Several viral social media posts recently claimed that Amul dahi failed to meet food safety standards in Uttar Pradesh. Multiple videos and Instagram reels — some of which gained millions of views — alleged that officials collected curd samples in September in Gorakhpur, sent them for laboratory testing, and found that the samples failed purity checks. In one widely shared video, a popular content creator asserted that “credible newspapers and media sources” published reports supporting these allegations.
Amul Issues Official Statement
On December 4, Amul responded to these allegations through an Instagram post. The company shared a screenshot of the viral video and stated that the claims circulating on WhatsApp and social media platforms were “false and incorrect.”
Amul clarified that the product officials tested did not belong to the brand. The company accused local media outlets of misreporting the incident and criticised social media users for amplifying these inaccuracies without verification. Amul urged consumers to ignore misinformation and encouraged them to trust the quality of its products. The company emphasised that it produces its dairy products in state-of-the-art facilities and follows stringent quality and safety standards.
Concerns About Dairy Safety Continue to Trend Online
Dairy-related food safety claims often attract significant public attention. A recent viral video tested paneer samples from major packaged brands and unbranded local vendors. The results showed that all major packaged brands — including Amul and Milky Mist — met purity and quality standards. In contrast, every unbranded sample failed the tests, which suggests that vendors adulterate these products with cheaper, non-dairy substitutes.
