Anantnag Bans CREMICA Digestive Biscuits for Excess Sulphite

Key Update

The Anantnag Food Safety Department in Jammu and Kashmir has banned the sale of CREMICA Digestive biscuits (Lot No. BD10K25) after tests found sulphite levels exceeding legal limits.

Food Sample Collected and Tested

Food Safety Officer Larnoo collected the biscuit sample from the market. The biscuits are manufactured by M/s MRS Bector’s Food Specialities Ltd., produced in Himachal Pradesh and marketed in Punjab. The National Food Laboratory, Ghaziabad, tested the sample and confirmed that its sulphite content exceeded the maximum prescribed limit. Based on the laboratory report dated 01 January 2026, authorities classified the product as unsafe under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 (FSS Act).

Officials warned that consuming products with excess sulphite can pose serious health risks, especially for children and individuals with respiratory conditions.

Immediate Sale Ban Enforced

Invoking powers under Section 36(3)(b) of the FSS Act, 2006, the Designated Officer prohibited the sale of this batch in Anantnag district immediately, until further orders. The Food Safety Department advised traders, retailers, and consumers to stop selling or consuming the affected batch and warned of strict legal action against violators.
