The Barnala district administration in Punjab imposed fines totalling ₹2.25 lakh in seven cases involving the sale of substandard food products under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The violations included samples of milk cake from a Barnala-based firm, khoya from Dhanaula, mustard oil from Ghunas and Tapa, cooking oil from Handiaya, and paneer from a firm in Dhanaula village.
Officials Intensify Inspections and Sampling
Deputy Commissioner Harpreet Singh directed the health department to carry out regular inspections and collect samples to curb food adulteration and dairy products, including milk, paneer, and edible oils. Authorities send all collected samples to laboratories for testing, and the additional deputy commissioner adjudicates cases related to substandard products, ensuring legal action against violators.
11 Out of 29 Samples Fail Quality Checks
Additional Deputy Commissioner Vivek Kumar Modi stated that the health department collected 29 food samples between January and March 2026. Of these, 18 met the prescribed quality standards, while 11 were found to be substandard. Authorities imposed the fines in the new financial year starting April 1.
