Cockroach Spotted on Food at Theobroma, Mumbai Customers Alarmed

Report

A shocking video showing a cockroach crawling over food at Theobroma, one of the popular patisserie chains in Mumbai, has gone viral on social media, sparking widespread concern over food safety and hygiene.

“Spicy Paneer Rolls” Served with Unwelcome Guest

The viral clip, filmed at Theobroma’s Runwal Greens outlet in Mulund West, shows a cockroach moving across a tray labelled “Spicy Paneer Rolls.” The footage also hints that other food items in the display may have faced contamination.

The user who posted the video expressed disbelief:

“I cannot believe this is the condition of Theobroma. My friend and I visited this evening, and this was exactly what we were about to order.”

Upon spotting the insect, the customer promptly informed the staff, who removed the contaminated tray immediately. However, the user noted, “We don’t know what happened after we left,” and cautioned others to stay vigilant.

Social Media Reacts: Outrage and Calls for Accountability

The video ignited a wave of outrage across social platforms. Many users expressed disappointment and frustration:

  • “There is no good brand left in India now,” wrote one.
  • “I used to love their croissants, but now I will never step foot inside Theobroma again,” said another.

Many also raised questions about franchise responsibility. One Reddit user commented:

“Brands franchise these outlets but fail to monitor what the owners do. It’s similar to delivery app dark stores — no sense of responsibility among owners and employees.”

Others shared their alarming encounters:

“I once saw a roach near a live dosa counter in a 5-star hotel breakfast in Mumbai. You just can’t trust places anymore!”

A Wake-Up Call for Food Safety

This incident has reignited fears about hygiene standards in the food establishments in Mumbai, especially at well-known chains. As the video circulates widely, consumers are urging brands to take stronger action to ensure food safety and rebuild trust.
