Dead Rat Found in Paneer Dish at UP Dhaba; Officials Launch Investigation

Key Development

Two diners at a roadside eatery in Bilsi town in U.P. discovered a dead rat in their paneer dish on Monday, prompting public outrage and triggering an official investigation. Nishant Maheshwari, a resident of Bilsi, visited Anmol Dhaba with his friend Puneet when they spotted the rodent in their meal.

A video, now viral on social media, shows one of them lifting a bay leaf from the paneer dish with a spoon and revealing the dead rat underneath. Maheshwari immediately confronted the dhaba staff and informed them of his plan to report the incident to the police.

Officials Begin Probe, Plan Widespread Inspections

Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Prem Pal Singh confirmed that he had watched the video. Although his office had not received a formal complaint by Monday, the administration began reviewing the footage and initiated food safety inspections at Anmol Dhaba and other nearby eateries. Officials also started collecting food samples from local restaurants to assess safety standards and prevent potential health risks. The incident triggered renewed concerns over hygiene at roadside food establishments, prompting residents to call for stricter monitoring and stronger enforcement by local authorities.
