In a video that’s now clocked over 2 million views on Instagram, a Zepto customer shocked viewers by revealing dead ants in her Maggi noodles that were ordered from Zepto Cafe, the company’s 10-minute quick-service food delivery platform.
“Buy 1 Get 1 Free… and Ants?”
The video shows four bowls of Maggi noodles, with one bowl empty and the rest containing leftovers. As the camera zooms in, dead ants are visible at the bottom of the bowls. Outraged, the customer captioned her post:
“@zeptonow this is disgusting. I’m shocked their cafe is still operating with misleading offers like ‘Buy 1 Get 1 Free.’ Serving food with insects is completely unacceptable! Zepto is clearly prioritizing fast delivery over hygiene and health.”
Zepto Responds at “Zepto Speed”
Zepto’s official Instagram handle, @zeptonow, responded in the comments:
“Hey! At Zepto, we take quality seriously, and we regret any inconvenience caused if this product doesn’t meet your expectations. Please DM us your order details so we can address this promptly at Zepto speed!”
While the customer acknowledged receiving a refund, she pushed back with a valid concern:
“We got our refunds, gladly. But what about the food we already consumed? These were just ants—what if it had been a cockroach? This is about hygiene. People could suffer from food poisoning. We expect better food quality—not just speed.”
FDA Cracks Down on Zepto Warehouse
The backlash comes amid serious food safety concerns. Following the viral video, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) inspected Zepto’s Dharavi warehouse in Mumbai. The investigation revealed multiple violations, including:
- Fungal growth on food items
- Expired products
- Unhygienic storage conditions
As a result, the FDA suspended the food business license for Zepto’s Dharavi warehouse, citing “serious non-compliance.”
