Key Development
At least six policemen fell ill on Thursday after consuming carrot halwa and samosas from two sweet shops in Jaipur. The incident prompted the Food Safety Department to launch an immediate investigation on Friday.
Food Samples Collected for Testing
Under the direction of the Chief Medical and Health Officer, Jaipur (I), food safety officers inspected Special Shankar Mishthan Bhandar, collecting samples of carrot halwa and other items and sending them for laboratory testing. Simultaneously, the team seized samples from Sodhani Sweets, the supplier of the samosas. Investigations at both establishments continue in accordance with regulations.
Authorities Urge Public Vigilance
Officials said further action will follow after laboratory results are received. They appealed to the public to report any suspicious food items and immediately visit the nearest health facility if they experience illness. Sources reported that the incident occurred during a small birthday celebration in the technical section of the intelligence wing at PHQ. About 20 personnel were served samosas and gajar ka halwa around 10:30 am, many of whom had skipped breakfast.
Rapid Onset of Symptoms
Soon after eating, several officers experienced severe stomach pain, profuse sweating, and unease, prompting colleagues to rush them to the hospital. Two officials who had eaten only a small spoonful of halwa also developed similar symptoms. Both sweet shops are located on Tonk Road, near PHQ. Officials noted that sweets and samosas are frequently ordered from this stretch, which houses four to five shops.
