19-Year-Old Dies After Dining at Local Restaurant: Allegations of Expired Food
A 19-year-old woman, Phool Kali Baiga, allegedly died from food poisoning after dining at a restaurant in Nirmal, Adilabad, Telangana. The Boath police station registered a zero FIR following a report from her school principal, Sister Smitha, who claimed that the restaurant had served expired food.
Phool, along with five colleagues from Saint Thomas School in Pochera, visited Nirmal for shopping on November 2. They later dined at Grill 9, ordering chicken 65, tandoori chicken, and chicken fried rice. That evening, all six began experiencing stomach pain and vomiting. They sought treatment at the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Boath, where doctors diagnosed them with food poisoning and prescribed medication. However, symptoms persisted, and they returned to the hospital on November 4 and 5 for additional care. Phool’s condition worsened with increased vomiting and severe abdominal pain. Despite continued treatment, she passed away on Tuesday.
Restaurant Linked to Food Poisoning of 13 People
According to sources, Grill 9 served food to 13 individuals that day, all of whom reported symptoms of food poisoning. Phool, originally from Madhya Pradesh, worked as kitchen staff at Saint Thomas School. Meanwhile, residents have raised concerns about alleged negligence by food inspectors, who they claim have failed to conduct regular inspections of eateries in the area. While a team of inspectors from Hyderabad found expired food in some Nirmal restaurants during an October visit, no follow-up inspections or actions have been taken by local authorities.
