Report
The Food Safety Department has instructed all those setting up temporary eateries and annadanam counters during the Adi Pooram fest at Andal Temple in Srivilliputtur near Madurai to obtain valid food safety licences. Food Safety Designated Officer S. Mariappan addressed local traders on Wednesday, informing them about the mandatory licence requirement for food distribution during the festival.
Chikki Unit Found Operating Without Licence
During a routine inspection as part of this Adi Pooram fest, officials found a chikki (a snack made with peanuts and jaggery or sugar) and snacks manufacturing unit operating inside a defunct match factory on Tiruvannamalai Road. They discovered that the unit’s food safety licence had expired and immediately ordered it to stop operations.
Legal Action Underway
The department has begun the process to register a case under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, according to an official statement.
