The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), in collaboration with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), has started training street food vendors to enhance food safety. On Wednesday, around 400 vendors attended a training session at the Lokshahir Anna Bhau Sathe Natyagruha Auditorium in Byculla, Mumbai.
Partnership Aims to Improve Street Food Safety
This initiative stems from a strategic partnership between FSSAI and BMC, formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (Mou). The partnership seeks to improve Mumbai’s street food culture by promoting safe and hygienic food practices. FSSAI and BMC aim to train over 10,000 street food vendors across Mumbai to ensure food safety. The session covered essential food safety topics, including personal hygiene, proper food handling, safe storage practices, and preventive measures to avoid contamination. Trainers emphasised the importance of serving high-quality, safe food in line with FSSAI’s ‘Eat Right India’ movement.
Vendors Appreciate the Training Program
FSSAI and BMC officials attended the event to oversee the training and interact with vendors. Many vendors expressed their appreciation for the chance to improve their food safety knowledge and practices. “This program marks a key milestone in the ongoing efforts of FSSAI and BMC to foster a culture of food safety and public health awareness in Mumbai. We have scheduled more training sessions in the coming months to ensure widespread participation and long-lasting impact,” said the officials.
