Key Update
Ahead of Holi, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has launched a nationwide “Holi Anti-Adulteration Drive” to ensure the safety and quality of foods commonly consumed during celebrations. The drive targets sweets, milk and milk products such as khoya, paneer, and ghee, edible oils, and other festive essentials. Authorities are conducting intensive inspections, large-scale sampling, and hotspot surveillance across States and Union Territories to prevent the sale of adulterated or substandard products.
Food Safety on Wheels for Rapid Testing
FSSAI has deployed Food Safety on Wheels (FSW) vans, mobile laboratories that allow on-the-spot testing of food directly at markets, sweet shops, and manufacturing units. This enables authorities to detect violations immediately and take swift action. The regulator has warned that food business operators found violating safety norms will face strict action, including penalties, license suspension, or cancellation under the Food Safety and Standards Act.
Consumer Awareness and Protection
The initiative reinforces FSSAI’s commitment to protecting public health, allowing citizens to celebrate Holi safely. Consumers are urged to buy from licensed vendors, verify FSSAI license numbers, and report any suspicious or adulterated food to local authorities. With heightened vigilance and enforcement, the nationwide drive aims to send a clear message: No to Adulteration. The effort promotes safe, hygienic, and high-quality food during the festive season.
