FSSAI Seeks Draft Specs from OEMs for High-End Food Testing Instruments

Key Development

FSSAI has asked Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and authorised suppliers to submit draft specifications for advanced food testing instruments. These include LC-HRMS (Liquid Chromatography High Resolution Mass Spectrometry), LC-IRMS (Liquid Chromatography Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometry), and EA-IRMS (Elemental Analyser Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometry). The Authority wants these details directly from manufacturers to create standard reference documents and bring uniform testing practices across India’s food testing laboratories.

Deadlines and Registration

FSSAI has set 1 December 2025 as the deadline to submit editable specification documents via email. A presentation session will take place on 3 December 2025 at the FSSAI Headquarters in New Delhi. OEMs and suppliers must register through the official FSSAI link to participate.

How FSSAI Will Review Submissions

  • If both a manufacturer and a supplier submit specifications for the same model, FSSAI will treat the manufacturer’s version as final.

  • The Authority will review all submissions and may ask for clarifications.

  • Each document will undergo a detailed scientific and technical evaluation before approval.

Why This Matters

This initiative strengthens India’s food testing ecosystem. LC-HRMS helps detect chemicals with high precision, while LC-IRMS and EA-IRMS support isotope analysis—an essential tool for identifying adulteration in honey, milk, spices, oils, and nutrition products. Standardised specifications will help laboratories follow consistent methods and deliver reliable results for food safety assessments.
