FSSAI Seizes 6,500 Kg of Adulterated Ghee from Rajkot Dairy Unit

Key Update

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has seized nearly 6,500 kg of adulterated ghee worth around ₹35 lakh from M/s Korova Milk Product Private Limited, a dairy unit in Rajkot, Gujarat, as part of its Special Ghee Surveillance Drive. Officials conducted an inspection at the facility, collected ghee samples, and sent them to an FSSAI-notified laboratory. The lab confirmed the ghee was sub-standard and adulterated with vegetable fat, violating the Food Safety and Standards Regulations, 2011.

FBO Misses Deadline; FSSAI Seizes Stock

FSSAI gave the Food Business Operator (FBO) one month to challenge the lab findings, but the FBO failed to respond. During a follow-up inspection on August 20, 2025, authorities seized all raw materials and finished products and collected fresh samples for further testing. FSSAI said the Central Licensing Authority will take legal and regulatory action based on final lab results. The regulator reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy toward adulteration under the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSS Act).

Consumer Safety Remains Priority

The FSSAI reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety and purity of food products and warned that any attempts to compromise food quality would invite serious penalties. This action forms part of the regulator’s broader effort to curb the adulteration of ghee with foreign fats, a practice that poses a risk to public health and violates consumer trust.
