Key Update
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has fined Parag Milk Foods Limited ₹6.14 lakh for alleged lapses in product quality standards, the dairy firm informed stock exchanges on Monday.
Details of the Penalty
In its filing with the National Stock Exchange of India Ltd., Parag Milk Foods said that FSSAI’s Udaipur division imposed a ₹1.14 lakh fine under Section 51 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. Officials had collected a product sample from a retail outlet in Udaipur, which they found fit for consumption but below prescribed quality standards. The regulator’s Lunawada office issued a separate order imposing an additional fine of ₹5 lakh on similar grounds. The company received both orders on November 3. Parag Milk Foods said the fines do not materially affect its operations and limit the financial impact to the penalty amount. The company also said it plans to appeal the orders before the appropriate authority.
FSSAI Tightens Scrutiny on Packaged Foods
FSSAI has stepped up enforcement against packaged food and beverage companies, increasing inspections and penalties under the Food Safety and Standards (Packaging and Labelling) Regulations, 2011. Last month, the regulator fined Marico Ltd ₹1 lakh for alleged misbranding in decade-old product samples, highlighting its ongoing crackdown on quality and labelling violations across the packaged food industry.
