Report
The food safety department began investigating after four members of a Sector Xu-2 family in Greater Noida fell ill from eating momos at a street stall in Alpha 1 on May 25. Munita Kasana, her son Vinay, and daughters Parul and Deepika started vomiting and experiencing diarrhea soon after the meal. Doctors at Kailash Hospital admitted all four the next morning. Vinay and Munita have since recovered and returned home, while Parul and Deepika continue receiving treatment. On May 30, their father, Sunil Kasana, filed a complaint at the district collectorate after doctors confirmed a foodborne infection caused the illness.
Officials Collect Samples, Await Lab Results
Food safety officers responded to the complaint by collecting samples of the momos and chutney from the stall. Assistant Food Commissioner Sarvesh Kumar said, “We have sent the samples for testing and are checking whether the stall is registered. If we find any violations, we will take action against the vendor.” Food safety officer Ibadullah added, “We have not ruled out other possible causes. If the momos alone caused the infection, we would likely see more cases linked to that vendor.”
Previous Cases Raise Red Flags
This incident adds to recent food safety concerns in the area. On September 29 last year, contaminated momos near Eldeco Greens in Pi-2in Greater Noida hospitalized 14 people. In December, the food department penalized three momo shops after their chutney samples failed safety checks.
