Gujarat Watermelon Get Clean Chit: No Artificial Colours Found

Report

Amid rising concerns and social media claims about using artificial colouring to make watermelons appear fresher, the Gujarat Food and Drugs Control Administration (FDCA) stepped up with a swift and thorough inspection drive. The FDCA inspected nearly 350 watermelon vendors across Gujarat and collected over 400 samples. Under the Food Safety on Wheels initiative, the team used mobile testing labs to conduct on-the-spot testing to ensure quick and reliable results.

Clear Results, Clean Practices

All 400 watermelon samples tested free of inedible colouring agents,” confirmed FDCA Commissioner H G Koshia in a press release issued on Saturday. “We also found no traces of artificial sweeteners or injection equipment at any of the sites we inspected.”

Proactive Step for Public Health

This initiative reflects Gujarat FDCA’s commitment to ensuring food safety and preventing the sale of adulterated or unsafe produce. By acting swiftly and transparently, the department reassured consumers that the watermelons in local markets meet safety standards and are safe to eat.

Food Safety First

With no synthetic colours, sweeteners, or syringes detected, the FDCA’s drive reinforces the importance of vigilance and routine checks in keeping the food supply safe.
