Haldiram’s Attapur Outlet Faces Expiry, Adulteration Allegations; Probe Underway

Key Development

Food safety concerns have surfaced after customers filed complaints against a Haldiram’s outlet in Attapur, Hyderabad, alleging that the store sold expired and improperly labelled sweets and packaged food items.

Visitors claimed several products lacked mandatory details such as manufacturing dates and expiry information, raising concerns about transparency, shelf life, and compliance with food safety regulations. Some customers further alleged that certain items were expired, adulterated, or even fungus-infested. Videos circulating online reportedly showed boxes of sweets with visible mould, intensifying worries over storage and hygiene practices.

Complaint Filed, Samples Sent for Testing

When customers confronted the store management, the situation reportedly escalated into an argument. Following this, complainants approached authorities and alerted the Food Safety Department.

According to reports, Attapur Police registered a case against the outlet. Officials collected product samples and sent them to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for testing. Food Safety Department teams are expected to inspect the store to verify whether any food safety or labelling norms were violated. Authorities have not yet released official findings, and investigations remain ongoing. The matter has sparked concern among consumers, particularly given Haldiram’s brand’s nationwide presence.

Supreme Court Push on Clearer Food Labels

The development comes days after the Supreme Court of India asked the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to consider mandatory front-of-pack warning labels on packaged foods high in sugar, salt, and saturated fat. The court directed FSSAI to respond within four weeks, stressing that clear labelling empowers consumers and protects public health. Together, these developments have intensified scrutiny on food labelling, storage practices, and regulatory enforcement in the packaged food sector.
