Family Falls Ill After Bonalu Feast
A 46-year-old man died, and eight members of his family were hospitalised after suspected food poisoning in Vanasthalipuram, Hyderabad. The incident occurred when the family consumed reheated leftover reheated meat from a Bonalu festival feast.
Leftover Meal Turns Fatal
On Sunday, the family cooked chicken, mutton, and boti (goat intestines) to celebrate the festival. They refrigerated the leftovers and ate the reheated meat on Monday. Soon after, all nine members began experiencing severe vomiting and diarrhoea. The deceased, Srinivas Yadav, a bus conductor, was declared dead at a private hospital in Chintalkunta after his condition deteriorated. His wife Rajitha, daughters Lahari (17) and Jasmitha (15), mother Gowramma (65), and four other relatives remain under treatment. Three are in critical condition.
Health Officials Warn Against Unsafe Practices
Doctors suspect bacterial contamination due to improper storage and reheating of meat. Authorities collected food samples for testing and urged people to avoid consuming leftover meat stored for long periods, especially in warm, humid conditions.
