Illegal Colouring in Fried Fish: Virudhunagar Club Licence Suspended

Food Safety officials suspended the licence of a recreation club in Krishnankoil in Virudhunagar near Madurai after tests revealed fried fish containing unauthorised artificial colours. Authorities declared the samples unsafe for human consumption and ordered the club’s kitchen to remain closed until further notice. Legal action is underway against the establishment.

Fines for Unregistered and Unsafe Practices

Officials fined four shops in Rajapalayam and Srivilliputtur ₹5,000 each for running food businesses without proper registration. A tuition centre in Govindan Colony, Srivilliputtur, also received a ₹5,000 penalty for selling food without a valid licence. In Aruppukottai, a fast-food joint faced a ₹5,000 fine for serving food in unauthorised plastic utensils, while a shop near the Old Bus Stand in Virudhunagar was penalised ₹1,000 for serving snacks on printed paper.
