Improper Chicken Disposal Sparks Food Safety Action in Tirupati

Key Update

Chandradandu Prakash Naidu, Chairman of the Meat Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Limited, raised serious concerns over the improper chicken disposal by retail outlets in Tirupati, warning that such negligence could pose significant health risks to residents.

On Sunday, he conducted surprise inspections at several meat shops in Tirupati and found that some outlets were violating norms by storing dead chicken for sale. He immediately seized the meat, imposed hefty fines, and warned shopkeepers that authorities would cancel their trade licences if they failed to comply with regulations.

Strict Directions Amid Bird Flu Concerns

Naidu directed retailers to maintain proper refrigeration and adhere strictly to shelf-life standards. In light of bird flu cases in the district, he instructed butchers to wear gloves while handling meat and to sterilise meat with hot water before use. Food Safety Officer Jagadish, Health Officer Yuva Avinash, and Sanitary Official C. Chenchaiah accompanied him during the inspection drive.
