Jamshedpur Hotels Ordered to Display Food Safety Certificates

Overview

Food Safety Officer Mohamed Manzar Hussain has ordered all hotels and restaurants in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, to display certified documents proving food quality, water safety, and kitchen hygiene. Establishments must prominently showcase certificates for food-grade packaging, water quality, and kitchen sanitation.

Officials Warn of Strict Action for Non-Compliance

Hussain stated that food safety teams will conduct random inspections to check compliance with the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) guidelines. “Displaying these certificates is mandatory. We will invoke penal provisions under the FSSAI Act, 2006, against any operator who fails to comply,” he warned. During a recent inspection, officials found an expired ingredient used in dessert preparation at the Kerala Samajam canteen. They issued a notice to the operator and demanded an explanation before taking further action.

Samples Collected for Quality Testing

The inspection team also seized samples of paneer, pasta, coconut oil, wheat, semolina, and cow and buffalo milk from various hotels. The team sent the samples to the state food testing laboratory in Namkum, Ranchi, for safety, quality, and composition analysis. Although officials found no contamination in paneer at Kannelite Hotel, they seized it for chemical testing. Hussain confirmed that authorities will act under FSSAI rules if the lab reports reveal substandard ingredients.
