Key Update
The food safety authority in J&K (Jammu and Kashmir) seized 440 quintals (44,000 kg) of unhygienic rasgullas from a cold storage unit worth nearly ₹50 lakh. Officials found the sweets stored in unhygienic conditions and intended for festive sales. The unit operated without a valid FSSAI license, leading to the immediate destruction of the entire consignment. FSSAI shared a video of the unhygienic conditions and the disposal process.
Synthetic Paneer Seized in Gangyal
In another raid on August 25, 2025, the J&K Food Development Authority (FDA) seized 21 quintals (2,100 kg) of synthetic paneer from the Gangyal area. Authorities destroyed the adulterated stock to eliminate any risk to consumers. A video released by FSSAI showed large blocks of synthetic paneer being dumped.
Crackdown on Food Adulteration
These raids form part of FSSAI’s ongoing nationwide drive to curb food adulteration. Similar busts of fake paneer operations have taken place recently in Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand. FSSAI and state FDAs continue to step up enforcement to protect consumers from unsafe and illegal food practices.
