Government Departments Told to Go Plastic-Free

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has directed all government departments to stop using plastic bottles in offices and official events. In a circular issued on October 28, he reinforced the state’s commitment to environmental protection and ordered departments to use only eco-friendly alternatives in meetings and functions. He also instructed officials to strictly enforce previous orders banning plastic bottles across all departments.

Push for Nandini and Local Farmers

Along with promoting sustainability, Siddaramaiah has ordered that all departments serve only Nandini products — produced by the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) — at official meetings and events, including those at the Vidhana Soudha. The directive aims to support local farmers, strengthen Karnataka’s dairy cooperative sector, and encourage the use of local brands.

Green Governance in Action

The initiative reflects Karnataka’s commitment to eco-friendly governance and reduced plastic waste. By replacing plastic bottles with sustainable options and prioritising locally produced goods, the government is setting an example for responsible and sustainable administrative practices.
