KMF to Launch Lactose-Free and Buffalo Milk Under Nandini Brand

Key Update

The Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF), which markets its dairy products under the popular Nandini brand, is preparing to diversify its offerings in response to shifting consumer preferences and increasing competition in the dairy sector. As part of its expansion strategy, KMF will introduce lactose-free milk, buffalo milk, and protein-rich milk, along with a new line of sugar-free sweets and savouries.

Lactose-Free Milk to Tap Into Health-Conscious Demand

With rising awareness around digestive health, KMF has identified lactose-free milk as a promising growth segment. Designed for consumers with lactose intolerance or sensitivity, this new variant addresses a growing demand for healthier alternatives. The product is currently undergoing trial production and is expected to be available in the market by the end of September.

Buffalo Milk to Serve Regional Preferences

In parallel, KMF is expanding into buffalo milk, catering specifically to consumer preferences in North Karnataka, where demand for creamier, full-fat milk is high. The federation has already initiated procurement plans to source buffalo milk in large quantities. This move not only meets regional needs but also strengthens Nandini‘s position against private brands offering premium dairy products.

Protein-Rich Options for the Fitness-Focused Consumer

Recognising the surge in demand for protein-rich diets, KMF is also working on developing high-protein milk and ready-to-drink protein shakes. These products target a growing segment of health-conscious consumers, particularly fitness enthusiasts and younger demographics. According to Managing Director Shivaswamy B., the aim is to offer nutritious, everyday beverage options that align with modern lifestyles.

Sugar-Free Sweets and Savouries to Broaden Offerings

Moving beyond traditional dairy, KMF is also venturing into sugar-free sweets and savoury snacks, appealing to consumers seeking healthier indulgences. The federation’s R&D team is currently developing at least 10 varieties of savouries, which are expected to complement its new product line. These innovations reflect KMF’s commitment to staying relevant in a market that increasingly values both taste and wellness. All the new products—lactose-free milk, buffalo milk, protein-rich milk, sugar-free sweets, and savouries—are in the final stages of trial production. KMF plans to officially launch them by the end of September, marking a significant step in Nandini‘s evolution as a modern, consumer-centric dairy brand.
