Report
Food safety officials sealed a private canteen operating inside the Government Thanjavur Medical College Hospital premises in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday after attendants of a woman patient from Pudukkottai discovered a dead lizard in sambar served with lunch. The patient, admitted earlier that day, was about to eat when she noticed the lizard in sambar. The attendants had purchased lunch for themselves and the patient from the canteen.
Food Safety Violations Lead to Immediate Closure
Upon receiving this information, food safety officials promptly inspected the Thanjavur Medical College canteen. They found multiple violations of food safety regulations, including that the canteen was operating without a valid license. Acting on these findings, officials immediately sealed the establishment. This incident follows closely on the heels of a similar case reported at the Government Tiruvarur Medical College Hospital, where a private canteen was sealed on June 20 after a lizard was found in sambar served alongside idlis.
