New Year Checks Bite: Noida Seizes 42 kg Expiry-Less Bread

Key Update

Food safety officials in Noida seized more than 42 kg of Italian white bread loaves from a popular sandwich chain outlet in Sector 121 after finding that the products lacked mandatory expiry or “use by” dates. The action followed intensified inspections across Gautam Budh Nagar ahead of the New Year celebrations.

Expiry Details Are Mandatory, Say Officials

Assistant Commissioner (Food) Sarvesh Kumar stated that missing expiry information constitutes a serious violation of food safety norms. The department issued a show-cause notice to the manufacturing unit supplying the bread, stressing that food items without proper labelling pose a direct risk to consumers and violate the Food Safety and Standards Act. The seizure formed part of a coordinated enforcement drive across Noida, Greater Noida and the Jewar area. Multiple food safety teams inspected restaurants, cafés and fast-food outlets, collecting samples from malls, markets and highway locations.

26 Food Samples Sent for Testing

Officials collected samples of reused cooking oil, bread and dough, pizza, rice-based dishes, milk and dairy products, sauces, and beverages over two days. Inspections covered locations such as DLF Mall of India, Gaur City Mall, Sector 18 markets, and commercial belts in sectors 62, 74, 121, 132 and 135, as well as outlets along the Yamuna Expressway. All 26 samples have been sent to laboratories for analysis.

Hygiene Lapses Flagged, Action to Continue

Teams issued improvement notices where they found gaps in hygiene, storage practices or labelling, including at food courts and standalone restaurants in Venice Mall, GIP Mall, and sectors 62 and 129. Officials said inspections will continue through the New Year period to ensure safe and standard food for residents and visitors.
