Report
The Health Department inspectors from the Pallikkunnu Zone Corporation were shocked to find improper food storage at a roadside shop near Payyambalam Beach, Kannur. The shop, lacking an electricity connection, used a non-functional refrigerator filled with blocks of ice to store food. When customers arrived, the staff heated and served the food. This alarming discovery took place during an inspection on Saturday morning.
Unsafe and Careless Food Handling
Inspectors found both cooked and uncooked food items stored carelessly. They seized several items, including kallummakkaya (clams), pathal (a type of bread), puttu, puffs, and ullivada (onion fritters), along with stale oil. Due to these serious violations, the authorities shut down the shop for two days and ordered the vendors to clean the premises.
Fines and Seizures of Prohibited Products
The vendors had previously been fined and issued a notice for dumping waste in public spaces. The authorities are in the process of collecting the fine from them. Additionally, during other inspections throughout the zone, health officials seized several prohibited products.
Stricter Enforcement Measures
Senior Public Health Inspector Radhamani, along with Public Health Inspectors C. Hamsa and T.P. Jayamohan, led the inspection. M.P. Rajesh, Chairman of the Health Standing Committee, and Vinu C. Kunhappan, Corporation Secretary, announced that they have intensified enforcement activities and implemented stricter night inspections led by the Health Inspectors.
