A New Twist on a Classic Breakfast
Omelettes are a popular breakfast around the world, enjoyed in many styles like the French omelette, Indian masala, or Spanish tortilla. However, a recent unusual twist has caught the internet’s attention — an omelette made with Skittles, Coca-Cola, and Lays chips, called the “Skittlelette.” This strange recipe was captured in a viral video by Instagram creator Navite Ty. In the video, Ty visits a street vendor preparing this unique omelette. The vendor pours Coca-Cola into a hot pan, cracks three to four eggs into it, adds lime and chopped onions, then mixes in Skittles candy and tops it with green Lays chips. The dish is finished with coriander leaves as a garnish.
Ty watches the cooking process with curiosity and jokes about whether it will taste good or make him sick. He orders the “Coca-Cola omelette” with Skittles and tries it, but doesn’t share his honest reaction.
Public Reaction: Shock and Curiosity
The video quickly gained over 11 million views and sparked strong reactions. Many viewers found the idea strange or unappetizing. Comments ranged from “I had the same crazy ideas as a kid” to “You’re brave for eating that.” Others criticised the mix of ingredients, saying the vendor was just throwing everything together.
Food Safety Concerns Around the Skittlelette
This unusual combination also raises food safety concerns. Mixing sugary candies and soda with eggs in street food could increase contamination risks and cause digestive issues. It’s important to be cautious and ensure proper hygiene when eating from street vendors. While the Skittlelette has shocked many, it also highlights the creativity found in street food. Some see it as an inventive fusion, while others question the sense and safety behind such unusual combinations. Either way, it’s a reminder of how far some food creators will go to stand out.
