Around 40 Students Affected
Around 40 students from Kakkat Government Higher Secondary School, Nileshwaram, Kasaragod, were hospitalised due to suspected food poisoning after returning from an excursion to Wayanad on Saturday (November 22, 2025). Four teachers who accompanied them also sought medical attention. All affected students were admitted to Nileshwaram Taluk Hospital and nearby private hospitals. Hospital authorities confirmed that none of the children is in critical condition.
Cause Under Investigation
The incident occurred after the group reportedly consumed chicken curry at a hotel near Banasura Sagar Dam. Several students began experiencing stomach pain and vomiting during the return journey, and symptoms continued after they reached home on Saturday night. Additional students arrived at hospitals on Sunday morning as discomfort persisted. Health officials are monitoring the situation closely and investigating the source of the suspected contamination.
