Key Development
In response to recurring cases of suspected food poisoning in government-run residential schools in Telangana, BC (Backwards Class) Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar has directed officials to promptly establish food safety committees in every school. These food safety committees must include teachers, principals, and students to ensure comprehensive oversight. Minister Prabhakar emphasised that food should only be served after the committee members personally verify its quality and taste. He urged officials to eliminate any laxity in delivering safe and nutritious meals to students.
Strict Accountability for Negligence
The Minister warned that any official found neglecting their duties will face stringent disciplinary action. “If any untoward incident occurs, the responsible officials will be held accountable,” he stated firmly. The Minister instructed that food preparation strictly follow the approved menu and all hygiene protocols. He also called for heightened sanitation efforts in school premises, especially kitchens. Regular health checkups for students must be conducted to safeguard their well-being. This decisive move aims to protect students’ health and ensure a safe, clean dining environment in residential schools.
