UAE Blocks Iranian ‘Uranus Star’ Water After Contamination Deaths in Oman

Key Update

Following the deaths of two people in Oman linked to Uranus Star bottled water from Iran, the UAE has swiftly blocked the product’s import and sale to protect public health. On October 10, the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MoCCAE) confirmed that authorities had issued no import or distribution permits for the brand and began reviewing import records and market activity.

Authorities Find No Uranus Star in UAE Market

MoCCAE inspected major retail outlets across all seven emirates and found no Uranus Star water in the market. The Ministry activated verification protocols in coordination with food safety authorities, including checking shipment records at all entry points. These measures aim to prevent any contaminated products from entering the UAE and reflect ongoing monitoring of regional food safety incidents. The Ministry urges residents to discard any Uranus Star water, regardless of quantity or source. Authorities warn against consuming the product, emphasising that doing so could pose serious health risks.

The Tragic Deaths in Oman

Omani authorities reported that the deaths occurred in late September and early October 2025. On September 29, a foreign woman living in Oman died after drinking Uranus Star water. On October 1, an Omani man, hospitalised along with family members for consuming the same brand, also died. Another Omani woman survived after receiving timely medical treatment. These fatalities highlighted the danger of the contaminated water, prompting the UAE to take immediate preventive action.

Contamination Details

Omani investigators discovered that the bottled water contained amphetamine, a harmful substance deliberately added to some bottles. Authorities attributed the contamination to unsafe and negligent manufacturing practices. Oman responded with a nationwide recall, removing all remaining stock from the market to protect public health.

UAE authorities continue to monitor markets and enforce inspections to ensure no trace of Uranus Star water circulates. The Ministry reminds residents to follow the advisory and dispose of any remaining bottles immediately, reinforcing public safety and preventing similar incidents.
