Key Update
The State Cooking Workers’ Union in Kasaragod reported that several auditoriums in the district operate without valid food safety and health certificates, as well as catering licenses. The union urged the Health and Food Safety Department to take strict action against these widespread violations to protect public health. They also pointed out that cooking staff working in households and informal setups often ignore hygiene and safety practices, increasing the risk of foodborne illnesses.
Union Demands Enforcement and Training
The issue came to light during the district annual general meeting of the State Cooking Workers’ Union. Kasaragod State General Secretary V.C. Hanif inaugurated the meeting, while District President Sainuddin Padannakad chaired it. The union demanded regular inspections, mandatory food safety training for cooking staff, and strict penalties for operators flouting licensing norms.
Public Awareness Essential
The union emphasised educating consumers to check food safety and catering licenses before availing any service. They called for stronger enforcement to ensure that all catering operations in auditoriums and households meet health and safety standards.
