UP CM Calls Food Adulteration a Social Crime, Orders Statewide Crackdown

UP CM Calls Food Adulteration a Social Crime, Orders Statewide Crackdown

Report

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister called food adulteration and counterfeit medicines a “social crime” and a major threat to public health. He led a high-level meeting with Food and Drug Administration (FDA) officials in UP and directed strict enforcement against violators. Authorities must display offenders’ photos at major crossroads to publicly expose and deter them.

Spot Checks at Production Sites Ordered

The UP CM instructed teams to conduct rigorous milk, ghee, cheese, oils, and spices testing directly at their production sources. He mandated regular inspections by dedicated teams to prevent harmful products from entering the market. Reaffirming the state’s commitment to public health, the CM emphasised strict supervision of safety measures. He also called for recognising professional blood donors to encourage voluntary participation in life-saving efforts.

State Expands Lab Infrastructure for Food and Drug Testing

The government has established 12 new laboratories across the state to enhance the testing of food and drug samples. Additionally, three new microbiology labs are now operational in Lucknow, Meerut, and Varanasi. Pathogen testing has already begun in Lucknow and Meerut, improving the state’s capacity to detect contamination and disease-causing agents. To prevent tampering during sample testing, authorities have introduced a password-protected barcode system. This ensures secure handling and generates digital scientific reports, which senior officials closely review.

Citizens Join the Mission via App and Helpline

To encourage public involvement, the FSDA launched the ‘Food Safety Connect’ mobile application and a toll-free helpline. These platforms allow citizens to report unsafe products and receive updates on food safety measures.
