Key Update
The Indore district administration carried out a major raid in the Siyaganj area on Saturday, seizing more than 1,300 kg of suspected adulterated food materials. Collector Shivam Verma led the operation, instructing teams from the district administration and the Food and Drug Administration to conduct a surprise inspection at the Jayashree Merchant godown on Jawahar Marg Warehouse Road.
Officials Suspect Colouring and Poor-Quality Seeds
During the inspection, officers found the godown—owned by Amit Gogia—stocking fennel seeds (saunf) and poppy seeds (khus khus) intended for sale. Senior food safety officials said the operation followed strict anti-adulteration directives issued by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav after the recent launch of the Food and Drug Lab. Preliminary checks raised immediate concerns: the fennel seeds appeared to contain artificial colouring, and the poppy seeds seemed to be of substandard quality.
Godown Sealed; Samples Sent for Testing
Authorities seized about 900 kg of fennel seeds and 400 kg of poppy seeds. They also discovered that the firm was operating without the mandatory food licence or registration. The team sealed the godown on the spot and ordered it to remain closed until further notice. Collector Verma stressed that ensuring pure and safe food for citizens remains the administration’s top priority. All collected samples have been sent to the State Food Testing Laboratory for detailed analysis, and officials will take further legal action based on the test results.
