Chicken Biryani Leads Kochi’s Food Trends
In 2024, Chicken Biryani emerged as the favourite dish for Kochi residents on Swiggy, with over 1.1 million orders placed. The city’s love for flavorful biryani was followed closely by orders for non-veg strips, crispy chicken fry, and rich chicken gravy from iconic local eateries. For breakfast, Kochiites favoured dosa, which topped the list with 223,000 orders. Other popular morning dishes included idli, veg gravy, veg strips, channa gravy, poori, and kadala gravy—staples in the city’s breakfast scene.
Popular Snack Orders in Kochi
When it came to snacks, Chicken Shawarma led the pack, with 79,713 orders on Swiggy. Chicken rolls and chicken momos followed as the second and third most ordered snacks, reflecting Kochi’s fondness for savoury, portable meals. In the sweets category, chocolate lava cake topped the list with 19,381 orders, while chocolate cream cake also stood out as a favourite dessert in the city.
Dinner Orders Soar in 2024
Dinner emerged as the peak ordering time, with an impressive 3.1 million orders placed during the year. Kochi residents embraced both traditional regional dishes and innovative international flavours, contributing to the surge in demand. Swiggy also saw extravagant orders, with some users splurging on large quantities of their favourite dishes. One user spent ₹17,622 ordering 18 plates of spicy chicken mandi, while another spent ₹15,280 on 40 full-broiler chicken biryanis, along with dragon paneer, vegetable biryani, and Veg Pothichoru.
Festive Sweets and Celebrations
During Diwali, there was a rush for traditional sweets, including choco lava cake, milk cake, ghee Mysore Pak, and kinnathappam. Durga Puja also saw high demand for sweets, with white chocolate cake, cinnamon rolls, and palada payasam topping the list of festive favourites. Kochi recorded a 310% increase in diners on Swiggy in 2024, with 67,363 people placing orders. The city collectively saved over ₹19 million (₹1.9 crore) on their food orders. Notable high spenders included a user who spent ₹72,163 at Kochi’s Latest Recipe and another who saved ₹34,342 at The Eatery.
