University Refutes Allegations of ‘Fake’ Paneer and Contamination

Report

On Monday, NMIMS University announced its thorough investigation into allegations of ‘fake’ paneer and insects in the food served at  SVK’s Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) at Jadcherla, Telangana. An independent lab test disproved these claims. Some students claimed to have tested the paneer using online methods, but the university pointed out that these tests lacked scientific credibility. It assured students that the food served is safe, nutritious, and meets food safety standards.

Independent Lab Confirms Food Safety

The university analyzed a 245 kg food batch, and certified lab results confirmed no contamination. The analysis showed that the paneer produced on February 23 was intended for use by March 9 and complied with the Food Safety and Standards Regulations, 2011.

Students’ Illnesses and University’s Response

On February 20, several NMIMS students fell ill after eating food from the campus mess. Students reported nearly 170 affected, with 37 showing worsening symptoms. However, the university downplayed the incident, claiming only 29 out of 1,000 students who ate the food experienced mild discomfort. Students accused the university of minimizing the situation, citing previous cases of tainted food and a notice about rising gastrointestinal issues.

Pro-Vice-Chancellor Addresses False Claims

In a press statement, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Meena Chintamaneni of NMIMS University stated that political groups with self-serving motives caused unnecessary disruptions by spreading false information. She also noted that unauthorized individuals, linked to local political organizations and not the parents of the affected students, entered the campus and made threatening statements.
