Panchkula Cracks Down on Unsafe Fruits in Surprise Market Inspection

Panchkula Cracks Down on Unsafe Fruits in Surprise Market Inspection

Report

On Tuesday, the food safety department conducted an unannounced inspection across Panchkula, Haryana, targeting fruit and vegetable vendors, cold storage units, and local markets. Food Safety Officer Amit Kumar led the drive, collecting food samples from various vendors and sending them to the Karnal food laboratory for analysis.

Unsafe Produce Destroyed on the Spot

Officials immediately discarded any food items found unfit for consumption. They instructed vendors to keep their fruits and vegetables properly covered and strictly prohibited the sale of cut fruits, which are more susceptible to contamination. The inspection particularly targeted fruit, vegetable, and juice cart operators. Officer Kumar issued a clear warning: “Any vendor found selling spoiled, cut, or contaminated food will face strict legal action.” He reminded vendors that the summer season increases demand for fresh produce, and with it, the risk of using harmful chemicals or preservation methods.

Public Urged to Stay Vigilant

Kumar also appealed to the public to remain cautious about the fruits they consume. “We are committed to ensuring safe, hygienic food reaches consumers, especially during the summer months when contamination risks are higher,” he said. The department plans to continue surprise checks to enforce compliance and protect public health.
