Commission Warns Against Repetition of Lapses
The Kerala Human Rights Commission has ordered strict measures to maintain food quality on Vande Bharat trains after passengers received expired juice. Judicial Member K. Baijunath warned authorities not to repeat such lapses and directed Railways to actively monitor the food supplied by catering agencies. The Commission praised Railways for offering premium travel facilities but expressed concern about the poor quality of food served. It stressed that low-quality food can harm passengers’ health and ruin their travel experience. The order stated that passengers paying premium fares have the right to safe, hygienic meals. Passengers travelling on the Mangaluru–Thiruvananthapuram Vande Bharat on May 25 reported the expired juice. Acting on media reports, the Commission registered a suo motu case.
Railways Takes Action, Fines Catering Agency
The Palakkad Railway Division submitted a report confirming that Brindavan Food Products holds the catering license for the train. Officials destroyed the expired ‘Maa’ juice and imposed a ₹1 lakh fine on the agency. Railways assured that train captains, supervisors, and officials will monitor food quality on every journey to prevent future violations.
