After a 12-day closure, Pune’s beloved Café Goodluck has reopened. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) suspended the café’s license on July 14 after a social media video showed glass pieces in a bun maska served to a customer. The viral clip triggered an immediate FDA inspection.
FDA Finds Multiple Hygiene Violations
FDA officials inspected the Gopal Krishna Gokhale Road outlet and found several hygiene lapses, including poor cleanliness, blackened kitchen walls, and the absence of valid medical fitness certificates for staff. Based on these violations, the FDA Joint Commissioner (Food), Suresh Annapure, ordered a temporary suspension of the café’s license.
Café Fixes Issues and Reopens
Café Goodluck’s management promptly addressed the shortcomings. They submitted updated health certificates for all food handlers and cleaned and repainted the kitchen walls. After verifying these corrective actions, the FDA cleared the café to reopen on Friday, July 25. While Café Goodluck has resumed operations, other establishments are still under scrutiny. Bhiwandi Darbar, located in Pune’s Camp area, remains closed as it has yet to meet the FDA’s hygiene standards.
