Kerala Approves KINFRA Food Park at Kunnukara

Kerala Approves KINFRA Food Park at Kunnukara

Key Development

The Kerala government has granted administrative approval to set up a KINFRA food processing park in Kunnukara village, Ernakulam district. Officials will develop the project under the state’s Mini Food Park scheme, using financial assistance from the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB).

Government Accelerates Plans for Hygienic Food Processing Units

Officials plan to acquire 37.82 acres (15.3073 hectares) of land for the KINFRA park, which will house processing units for spices, coconut, fruits, dairy products, cakes, and bakery items. Industries Minister P. Rajeeve confirmed that the district administration will speed up land acquisition to ensure smooth implementation. The park will focus on hygienic food processing and support safe, value-added production across multiple sectors.

Project Supports Kalamassery’s Agricultural Revival

The food park will strengthen the agricultural revival efforts under the ‘Krishikkoppam Kalamassery’ initiative. Authorities have already expanded farming to more areas, including sugarcane and arrowroot cultivation. As part of the agri mission, five value-added products have entered the market.

Organisers will host the third edition of the Kalamassery Agri Fest this August to showcase local farming achievements. Officials have also upgraded irrigation infrastructure to boost agricultural output. Minister Rajeeve emphasised that the food park will play a key role in processing and distributing local produce safely, helping farmers benefit from better market access.
