Key Update
At a public event on Friday evening in Areekode, Malappuram district, Kerala, 44 people fell ill after eating snacks served with tea. Officials identified the chicken sandwiches as the main cause. Hospital authorities admitted 41 people to Areekode Government Taluk Hospital and three to Manjeri Government Medical College Hospital, confirming that none of the cases were serious. The event took place between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.
Students Among the Affected
Volunteers, mostly students, received leftover snacks, and many developed nausea, vomiting, and weakness afterwards. The chicken sandwiches had been purchased from outside, and some students consumed them late at night, resulting in additional cases of food poisoning.
Samples Sent for Laboratory Testing
Patients showed symptoms of vomiting, fatigue, and general discomfort, prompting them to seek medical care. Hospital authorities sent food samples to laboratories in Malappuram and Kozhikode for testing. Officials continue to monitor the situation and urge caution when consuming food from outside sources.
