Licenses Suspended in Srinagar and Anantnag
The J&K (Jammu and Kashmir) Food and Drug Administration has suspended the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) licenses of nine food outlets across the Valley as part of its intensified crackdown on food safety violations. Officials confirmed on Tuesday that four outlets operated in Srinagar, while five ran in the Anantnag district of south Kashmir. Officials launched the suspension after seizing more than 12,000 kilograms of rotten meat, 21 quintals of synthetic cheese, and a large stock of expired sweets. Teams confiscated these items during routine and surprise inspections over the past few weeks.
Public Outrage Over Rotten Meat Scandal
Residents in J&K raised a storm after discovering frozen but decomposed meat in several cold storage units and retail outlets. Their outrage pushed authorities to intensify checks and take swift action, leading to this sweeping crackdown aimed at safeguarding food safety across the Valley.
