Key Update
On Wednesday, police in Cuttack uncovered a major milk adulteration racket at Kusupangi in Cuttack, Odisha. During the operation, officers seized over 1,000 litres of contaminated milk, along with mixing equipment and harmful chemicals. The milk, reportedly transported from Sambalpur in a pickup vehicle, was allegedly destined for a prominent dairy company in Cuttack. Authorities said the accused had been adding water, salt, powders, and unsafe chemicals to the milk before distributing it to the market.
Investigation Underway Across Districts
Authorities believe the racket extends across multiple districts. Acting on a tip-off, Cuttack (Rural) SP Vineet Agarwal said police intercepted the vehicle near Kusupangi and immediately began investigations. Preliminary findings confirmed large-scale adulteration, prompting officers to seize the contaminated milk and the machinery used for mixing. Police are now probing the entire supply chain to identify all those involved. They have also announced that strict legal action will follow, stressing that adulterating food products poses a serious risk to public health.
Food Safety Measures and Future Raids
In addition, officials from the food safety wing collected milk samples for laboratory analysis. Police indicated that they may conduct further raids in nearby areas to uncover potential links to a larger milk adulteration network. The ongoing investigation reflects authorities’ efforts to safeguard consumer health and crack down on illegal food practices.
